LEFKADA

Lefkas island is the only island in Greece which you can visit, without needing to spend time and money in a ferry boat, as you enter it with your car through a bridge, free of charge ! It is known through the ancient times as Hoplites soldiers from the island took part in the Trojan War.  Some archeologists believe that Lefkas is the island of Ulisse, and not Ithaca.

Through the ages the island was conquered by Romans, Byzantines, Venetians, Turks, French, English, before it has finally joined Greece in 1864.

As during the winter it rains a lot, it is totally covered with forests and trees, even down to the numerous small beaches which you can find all round the island.

It has many beaches, some of which have world wide reputation, such as the Porto Katsiki, Egremnoi, and Kathisma.

There are quite a few places of interest to visit such as the island of Skorpios, Lefkas town, the Venetian Castle, the Water Falls, the little town of Karia at the mountain, and if you are

adventurous type you can climb all the way to the top of maountain at a place called Skaroi and you will be rewarded by a spectacular view of all the eastern side of the island.

Enjoy it !
